- The Aztecs This site begins with a brief three-paragraph overview of the Aztec culture and its geographic location up until the Spanish invasion and the destruction of the Aztec empire. This page allows the user to choose between two different categories of links, each with a variety of sub-topics. The first category of links has titles such as: community, family, vacation, and business. Within each are interesting infromation, dates, helpful travel information, current events, community activities, and brief factual information pertaining to Mexico cities. The second category of links are titles such as Olmecs, Teotihuacán, Mayans, and Toltecs.(ml)
- Settlements at Time of European Contact This is a small site consisting of three informative paragraphs on the tribes of Florida, four colorful graphic pictures, and a map of the location of the different Florida Indian tribes. The page discusses five different Indian tribes (Timucua, Apalachee, Ais, Tekesta, and Calusa). Each tibes' location, cultural characteristics, environmental surroundings, and the neighboring tribes are briefly discussed. This is not an extensive site; however, the small bits of information are worth looking into.(ml)
- The World of the Mayan Titled "Diario Yucatan," this Web site offers five different links that provide information concerning life in the Yucatan Peninsula. Out of the five links offered, "The World and Culture of the Maya" is perhaps the most informative. This site allows the user to view a large, colorful map of the Yucatan. It has six different subject categories, with each category having a number of links. The categories include The World of the Maya, The Ancient Maya, The Colonial Period, Today's Maya, and Ecology.(ml)
- Aztecs The homepage for this site consists of a beautiful photo and a table of contents. The site contains eight different topics. The table of contents lists the following topics: Introduction, Social Organizations, Nabuatl Music, Art and Literature, Aztec Calendar, Teotihuacan, Templo Mayor (the main temple), and Quetzalcoatl (pyramid of Quetzalcoatl and the God Quetzalcoatl). This site explains how the Aztecs were first encountered by the Spaniards and how this discovery lead to their defeat in 1525. This Web site stresses the importance of religion, traditions, rituals in Aztec life.(ml)
- 1492:An Ongoing Voyage An Ongoing Voyage addresses a number of questions pertaining to life in the Western Hemisphere, Africa, and the Mediterranean. Here are some of the questions: What spurred European expansion? How did European, African, and American people react to each other? What were some of the immediate results of these contacts?. This exhibit is divided into six parts: What Came To Be Called "America", The Mediterranean World, Christopher Columbus:Man and Myth, Inventing America, Europe Claims America, and Epilogue.(ml)
